Ex-tropical Cyclone Seth has been hanging around Queensland and Northern New South Wales early in 2022. Seas are churning and waves are breaking big and beaches have been disappearing.
What makes a tropical cyclone an ‘ex’?
Walking to Ocean Shores surf beach yesterday, during a lull in the downpours, I came upon a lady walking up from the beach. Dressed in a rain jacket and with her little dog trailing behind, we smiled at each other.
“Excuse me, she said, can you do me a favour and reach into my pocket?”
As I had made eye contact with her I looked down towards her jacket and saw the zipper of the jacket first.
All of a sudden I noticed the fairly large bird she clutched to her body.
I reached into her pocket and extracted her car keys.
“It’s either very tired or injured and I want to take it to the vet. It appears to be a shearwater from New Zealand”.
It did not speak so I had no idea if it was a kiwi. Well, of course, it was not a kiwi bird because as we all know they are flightless and I don’t think they could swim across the pond.
Things are quiet here. Omicron is causing businesses to shut due to staffing issues. Not a bad place to enjoy the peace.

There is one high-flying Serbian tennis player grounded today.
This story definitely has legs if not wings. But Novak will not be taking off at the Australian Open Tennis in 2022. If ever again.
He won’t be flightless long as border control appears to be sending him packing very soon.
