Strolled by 3 scruffy teens standing on a corner near Windsor Train Station here in Melbourne. My mind was quickly whisked off to a place I recall so well. Maybe it was the denim, maybe it was the flannel.
That was our uniform. Outside a shopping mall, lounging in the bleachers overlooking the football field with a cigarette, a pipe, or a joint passed around.
My little omnipresent cassette player gave us rock and roll on the go.
How cool we thought we were trapped in our little suburban town
NYC was just a shot away….
Just like Melbourne may mean to these kids here….waiting for whatever happens.
And making it happen…
3 teens on the street gave me a look into life.
My past and the future that may be ahead of them.
Stoned and with a life ahead of us most of us were caught up in the moment and the here and now. The trail ahead was just the trail.
Some had bigger well developed plans and maps and others were simply plotting an escape to be an adult somehow….someway.
Others were just escaping.
How did that work out?
The humble jumble of dreams on the edge of maturity. Maybe the edge was further off than we imagined?
We continue to evolve and be born again over and over if we are lucky enough.
Some scars, some love, some joy, something…
Always something
Life and music and love and pain
Those young faces made me think of mine
And yours and the ones that live on in stories and memories
Train station blues
Suburban tunes
Urban boooze and low down grooves
Never gonna leave
A part of me
A part of you
Forever
