There are a few Stevie’s I love very much in this list of “S” Artists.
Stevie Wonder was floating around AM radio when I was a kid.
The Steve Miller Band was in my brother’s collection before he was a Pop Rock artist pumping out the big hits.
Stevie Winwood…..don’t ever miss him if you get the chance.
Stevie Nicks, well, not so much but she had been on stage in front of me a few times. I recall one evening she was very coked out as she attempted to sing with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Lights were on, but not sure what home she was in.
And of course, SRV!
Just a reminder the artists in BOLD I have seem more then once.
Sade
Saints-Chris Bailey was an amazing front man and he never let me down. Reminds me of my early days in Australia at various venues across Sydney that no longer exist today.
Sally King
Sally Timms
Sam Bush
Sam Fender
Samantha Fish
Sam Lehman
San Sebastian
Sandi And The Sunsets
Santana-Only saw Carlos 3x and not in the 70’s or 80’s. Caught the band in a hockey arena when I worked for Ciso and the company hired them to play at the event. Free booze and food and a full concert by Carlos and Company. One of the other times was a double bill with Steve Miller and that was a fabulous night of music at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. That review can be read below.

Smokin Joe Kubek and Bnois King
Snooks Eaglin
Snowdroppers
Snarky Puppy
Solomon Burke
Son Seals Band
Sonny Landreth- The first time I caught him was at a small street market/festival in Salt Lake City. I was impressed! Then at The Deepest End Concert with Govt Mule in New Orleans. He also showed up at an early morning concert with the North Mississippi Allstars in N’awlins. That gig started around 1:30am…..until the sun came up.
Sorong Samarai
Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes
Specials-The first time I saw them was either Hurrah’s in NYC or somewhere in Staten Island in 1980. The venue was packed and people were pushing and shoving and people were going to get hurt up near the front of the stage.
I joined in with security and tried to move people back, but we had our backs to the crowd and they were a tad aggressive. Looked at the 2 guys near me and I said let’s turn around and face the crowd, we did that and people were kinder and things settled a bit.
Once the band hit the stage I was getting smashed against the stage and I climbed up and sat next to the drummer for the entire set. Each time I thought about getting up to dance I was given a dirty look from Terry or someone advising me to just stay put. Was a memorable night wherever it was.
Spencer P Jones
Spiderbait
Split Enz-Lucky enough to be working for Air New Zealand when we hired them to play The State Theatre for a party one night.
Was unlucky enough to see them in June 2006 at The Sydney Entertainment Centre. 5 songs into what was going to be a 26-song evening, I felt a rumbling in my stomach.
The chicken enchiladas I had at Cafe Pacifico gave me food poisoning and the rest is too horrid to go into.
Spoon
Spooner Oldham
Spurs For Jesus
Spyro Gyra
Squeeze-Many nights with this band. Seeing them do a sort of acoustic gig in London where everyone sang along to every song was mindblowing even if was going through existential hell. It took my mind off it for a couple of hours.
2 nights at The Palladium in NYC and one in Passaic at The Capitol. Had tickets for a 4th gig but gave them to my cousin Janice as I was puffed!
St. Paul and The Broken Bones
St. Vincent
Steel Pulse
Steely Dan- The first time I saw them was at Avery Fisher Music Hall (Aril 3 ,1974) warming up the crowd for an early tour of ELO. Sound issues put me off Steely Dan for a while but years later I got to see them down here in Australia and they were excellent live. ELO were mindblowing….before all the synths!
Stephane Grappelli
Stephen Cummings
Stephen Stills-One evening I saw him sit at the piano, I think he was wearing a white suit, but I recall looking at his eyes and thinking to myself that he must be really, really, REALLY Stoned.
Steve Boyds Rum Reverie
Steve Cropper
Steve Earle- Sometimes I feel like he is family I have seen him so many times. Had a good interview with him once with him in Greenwich Village and me in Sydney. We talked about NYC for a bit.
Steve Forbert
Steve Goodman-Gone much, much too young.
Steve Lane and The Autocrats
Steve Marriott
Steve Martin- He was the supporting comedian for a show with Loudon Wainwright III and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the 70s at Stony Brook University gymnasium.
Steve Miller-Westbury Music Fair before The Joker was released. he played for a very long time.
Steve Riley And The Mamou Playboys
Steve Winwood-Do yourself a favour and make sure you see him. He is amazing.
Stevie Nicks-With Fleetwood Mac and with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty.
Stevie Ray Vaughan -I saw him at some showcase gig in NYC where he played with a couple of bigger blues acts and he did the entire Jimi Hendrix thing and lit his guitar on fire. Everyone was talking about him.
From then on never missed him and got to catch him close to 10 times.
Truly a genius.
Stevie Wonder-Radio City Music Hall I got to stand onstage and sing with him and also saw him support The Rolling Stones in 1972 in the 8th row and Madison Square Garden. Mic Drop. The only other time I got to see him live was when I went to see Saturday Night Live one evening and Stevie did a couple of songs and skits.
