Earth holds the memories
Sky mirrors the dreams
Soul of our continent embedded in the soil
Place your feet on this dew-covered ground
You are awake to the centuries of life that have come before
Heartbeats of the native bird calls
Wallabies peeking around the corner
Breathe and smile
Breathe and smile
I am a little over 100 kilometres from Naarm (Melbourne). I am blessed to be on the traditional Country of the Bunurong People, who are part of the Kulin Nation. Mountain Ash and Grey Gum tower in some parts, and small farms pop up here and there. The population of Ferndale, where I am sitting, is under 100 humanoids.
Imagining what time was like 60,000 years ago is not difficult here. The land of Mount Worth National Park, poised on the western rim of the Strzelecki Ranges, takes you back in time. The huge Standing Giant is a Mountain Ash that is a mere 300 years old and has a girth of 14 meters.
Giant ferns, creeks, and waterfalls all come under the gorgeous rainforest canopy. The sound system of bird calls filled my ears with joy.

This is NAIDOC Week, when we honour the culture of the original and traditional caretakers of the land we live on. I took some time to meditate and connect.
Funny, or not so funny, there was only one other person parked at this amazing park on a gorgeous day of the Winter School Holidays.
People ‘escape’ to the warmth or to the theme parks. Some may go to the ski fields, but that pastime may be in decline as climate change reduces snowfall.

Natural Beauty is everywhere around us. You don’t have to go very far to find it.
You might even look out your window.
Blow up your TV.

Paul, it hell to communicate with you here. Maybe just for me. But it just took me 7 times, 7 different codes and they wouldn’t go through m. You might not like FB but at least we could communicate. I miss you. I love you. Apparently Substack and I have an issue 😢 maybe you’ll get this. 🙏
