QED-Some Aussie band….
Queen Ida And Her Zydeco Band-As far as I know she came to Australia once and I saw her somewhere at some venue near the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. I cannot recall the name of the room, but I do recall dancing up a storm. Must have been around 1990.
Before I go on….just a reminder…you can look at all my writings on substack not only via email but on www.outsidemyinside.com. There are reviews and other articles on there that have not been sent to your Inbox. Have a look if ya like!
Quicksilver Messenger Service- June 29th 1973-It was another Central Park gig as part of the Schaefer Music Festival. Malo was the support band. Having been a Quicksilver fan when I was a younger teen, I was very keen to see them live.
Below is the line-up that I got to see.
Greg Elmore – drums
Gary Duncan – guitar, vocals
Dino Valenti – guitar, vocals
Harold Aceves – drums
Chuck Steaks – keyboards
Roger Stanton – bass
The line-up below is the one that had really caught my attention from 1969-1971.
John Cipollina – guitar
Greg Elmore – drums
David Freiberg – bass, vocals
Nicky Hopkins – keyboards
Gary Duncan – guitar, vocals
Dino Valenti – guitar, vocal
John Cippolina is known as one of the ‘fathers’ of the San Francisco sound.
In 2003, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Cipollina 32nd on their list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Damn shame I never got to hear him play live.
