Warm does not describe how hot it was at Victoria Park for Yabun. After the march from Belmore Park to the Indigenous festival, dehydration was a concern for many. The smell of sunscreen mixed with the chants and the sound of shuffling feet as we protested once again.
Someday.
Always was and always will be Indigenous Land.
The evening found me at The Marrickville Bowlo to catch The Mighty Reapers. Dave Brewer was back East once again to groove with this line-up. If Brewer is in town, I try not to miss him. Recently I caught him with the Paul Williamson Hammond Trio in Melbourne (where I reside) and this was just a lucky dip for me to get to hear him play his 6-string in Sydney.
Continental Robert was out front on harp and vocals and he looked more relaxed than I had ever seen him. He had a glow and a lightness to his being that oozed into his playing. Clayton Doley AKA The Teenager added his smooth keyboard moves and Ray Beadle picked up a bass and Antero Ceschin completed the rhythm section.
There was a good crowd on hand and as always dancing was happening wherever you looked. Funky good times were had by all and I will let the videos and photos speak for themselves. With 40 years of miles behind them, The Reapers are always worth your effort to get off the couch.
Until next time….enjoy.
