Birds laughing or the sound of a plane overhead
Even without sighting I know them both
That’s a cockatoo mixed with a seaplane
From Kirribilli to Rose Bay
Marrickville to Whale Beach
Same old coffee different places
And the somewhat familiar faces
Smile of recognition maybe
That we had passed this way before
Shiny harbour city now more subdued and barren
Magical light and warmth of an autumn day
Everything glistens
But listen
Something is missing
It ain’t the same
