Don’t need no ticket, you just thank the Lord. Invasion Day, also known as Survival Day, is commemorated annually on the 26th of January, the same day that many Australians celebrate as ‘Australia Day’.
It is a day that honours those who have lost their lives as a result of invasion, remembers how hard our people fought to protect Country and celebrates the fact that despite invasion, colonisation and the resulting trauma on our people – we have survived.
The 1938 Day of Mourning marked the beginning of the annual marches, protests and celebrations of our culture, history and people. Around the country marches and protests are held – especially in the major cities with thousands of people from all different communities coming together to march through the streets which is often followed by celebrations in the park with music, food and games.
