I don’t want to whinge. But I think that is where I am headed.
Tiredness has fallen on me like a fog. Slowly, it passes, but it takes some time.
Self-inflicted fun getting to and attending The Harvest Rock Festival in Adelaide.
Tina and I enjoyed ourselves, danced and laughed, and met some good people along the way.
It rained. Oh boy, did it rain. During one heavy downpour, I looked off into the distance and said to a punter next to me, “Man, look at that over there, it really is coming down like crazy!” We laughed knowing we were a bit predicted from the sideways rain due to the humans standing close to us. My cowboy hat helped too!
We found shelter under trees. Shelter from the storm at The Stag Hotel not too far from the festival.
Musical highlights were Kurt Vile, Crowded House, Groove Armada, Goanna, Khruangbin, The Avalanches, and The Teskey Brothers. Jack White was the loudest and sounded great but we needed warmth and a seat, so we missed the second half of his rock and roll show.
Apologies for the acts we missed due to water falling from the heavens and the need to sit down for a while somewhere dry and warm.
Disappointing set for me was The Black Crowes, a band I have loved for decades, and seen many times. This show was part of their Shake Your Money Maker Tour but they played more of a festival set list and not the album from start to finish. Leaving out Hard To Handle and She Talks to Angels was unbelievable, but the real crime was the energy lacking on stage. Maybe just a bad day, who knows for sure?
So yeah, I am recovering from the travel and two days of being on my feet.
It was a good festival but when you have to walk through deep mud to get to a bathroom or to buy a drink, well someone has failed to plan ahead. Woodchips would have been such an easy thing to cover some of the worst spots.
Also, running out of beer on the first night before closing time, well, that is a sin!
And one quick tip, if you are ever in Adelaide and someone says, “Let’s go to Cha-Chi’s for Mexican food!”
Run the other way…..fast.
One other hint, bring an umbrella.
And if you ever get the chance to go to Childers Cove on the Great Ocean Road….don’t miss it…and go when the sun is out and bring a blanket and a bottle of wine and you may be the only people there.
My kind of heaven.
