The idea of Christmas definitely changes as we age.
From unbridled excitement to obligations and stress.
Geography messed up part of my enjoyment for a bit.
From White Xmas in NYC to the blistering sun and salt of an Australian Yuletide confused simple old me.
So many versions of life and this holiday have come and gone.
Childhood memories of bikes and toys that were amazing
For a moment.
Feelings of seeing Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, and siblings are what reverberates through my soul.
Thanksgiving hangover would ease into another celebration of love and family
Let’s not paint it all as a Norman Rockwell vision.
Life always throws snowballs and they sting.
This year I miss seeing my children more than ever.
Simply, I have been lucky that this time of year, even when there are people who are estranged or suffering, the love and connection have always been a nice addition. Distance is hard but my love overcomes it.
Spoil the children.
Fill yourself with love and food.
Be present.
Forget the presents.
And if you know someone who needs something, give them whatever you can.
Make some Christmas magic so you feel like a kid again.
Taking it easy is never more appropriate.
And with the virus still lurking…maybe take Tom’s advice below…
“Long-distance relatives
Haven't seen 'em in a long, long time, mm
Yeah, I kind of missed 'em
I just don't wanna kiss 'em, no
And it's Christmas all over again, yeah, again”-Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Merry Christmas….
