Goodbye June, Hello Winter,Outside My Inside
Brr...I am staying inside....for now....
Seasons come and seasons go.
I was born in the summer, and now I celebrate my birthday in the winter. This has been going on for some decades now, but I cherish those long, warm summer birthdays of my youth. Beaches, beers, baked. Those sweet memories with family and friends keep me almost as toasty as my puffy jacket.
As I approach 69 years in this next month, as Keef says, “Happy to be here. Happy to be anywhere”. If you don’t know who Keef is, you don’t know Mick.
June has certainly been interesting. It’s not just winter coming on. News is making me emotional and angry, and, believe it or not, I am not talking about my usual nonsense regarding the Orange Queen Of The USA Regime. More personal news has rocked my boat, and the wind and waves are whipping against the coastline of my soul. But hey, you get to 68 and all bets are off and anything can happen.
Who am I kidding? Anything can happen at any time; bear that in mind. We all know that….
So, take a break from whatever ails you and drop into this playlist of (mostly) New Music of 2026.
Let’s take a break from looking back. These are some new things I found this month and here are the albums you should listen to from back to front and flip it over again.
Kurt Vile-Philadelphia’s been good to me- Cozy little pile of songs from the heart and home of Mr. Vile.
Bella White-A Sign In The Weather-Ms. White is 25 years old and this is her 3rd album. She is one of my favourite modern country singers and I’d love for her to do a Trio album with Sierra Farrell and Cat Clyde.
The Milk Carton Kids-Lost Cause Lover Fool- Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan continue down the dusty road of fingerpicking and beautiful harmonies. Get onto it and keep an eye out as
Cowboy Junkies-Open to Beauty: Best of the 21st Century-Earlier this year, I had spent a good portion of a month listening to this Canadian outfit. Fabulous collection, enjoy with maple Syrup and Geese.
Tony Joe White and The Flying Mojito Bros-The Swamp Fox – A brand-new Flying Mojito Bros album built from digitized reel-to-reels from deep inside the studio vaults of the legendary Tony Joe White. With the help of his son and archivist Jody White, we were given access to a trove of unheard and unreleased material from Tony Joe’s golden era. (FMB Bandcamp) Digitised, magnetised, discofied, funk fried Tony Joe White….you be dancing, you hear me?
Case Oats-Last Missouri Exit-The band consists of vocalist Casey Walker, guitarist Max Subar, bassist Jason Ashworth, fiddle player Scott Daniel, and drummer Spencer Tweedy. Fabulous debut record.
Mid-West Americana…..very sweet album and some great lyrics:
“We could've been on old porch swings
Your sister's braiding their hair with me
But I'm back in the city, figuring out ways to drink more
And it hurts, but that's how it goes
What changed, I never knew, what it was I saw in you
Mississippi flows in ways that you don’t want her to”-
All songs written by Casey Walker and Spencer Tweedy except “Seventeen” and “Bluff,” written by Casey Walker. Casey and Spencer are going to be a musical couple to watch.
Kevin Morby-Little Wide Open-This Morby album has made me a fan. It’s warm and solid, inviting the listener in. Morby and his band come to Australia this November. Don’t miss this one.
Lots of other good tunes from good albums in this playlist….dig deep into them if you like what you hear.
Thanks for being here….thanks for being anywhere.
https://open.qobuz.com/playlist/65101654 Here is the Qobuz Link to the June 2026 Playlist.
And of course, here is the Evil Spotify Playlist….for those of you still using that sub-par service.
See ya next month, I got cigarettes to smoke….
Only listened to one Grateful Dead Live Pick this month….from 1974…it’s not a great one…but it has some charm…..Playing In The Band….check it out.
