March buzzes in like a hummingbird and gallops out like a pelican….
Welcome to Autumn Or Spring….depending on your locale!
This Mixed Tape comes in like an Americana Beast and drifts off to parts unknown.
Canadian Jerry Leger is a recent discovery for me and I love his voice and melodies. I have some listening to do as he has released 13 albums since 2005.
If you like Ripple by the Grateful Dead, you will love the cover by The California Honeydrops.
Some other cuts should lead you to releases by guitarist Mike Campbell with some Petty-sounding numbers and more and Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutter’s recent album The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea has more good than average within the tracks.
Albums Of The Month
The Pine Hearts-Lost Love Songs -Recorded in rural Oregon, this slice of Americana is a mix of bluegrass and folk music with some damn fine song-writing. Right in the Americana wheelbarrow, I love so much.
Sophie and The Broken Things-Delusions Of Grandeur-Sophie Gault has a voice that sounds familiar and that is a sweet sound. Hailing from Oneonta, New York, Sophie is making her way in Nashville and although this music leans a little bit towards the mainstream, it has some edges too. Ray Kennedy worked with her on the record and his influence can be heard within the production. File closer to Jenny Lewis than Dolly Parton. (pictured below)
Album Of The Month Ray Wylie Hubbard-Co-Starring Too
Classic Hubbard with guests that include Ringo, Willie, Steve Earle, and quite a few others. We get country, we get rock and roll, and we even get a little bit psychedelic. As always his lyrics will hit ya where ya need to be hit.
Now I have to go back and listen to the first Co-Starring release he put out…..
Enjoy
