Another month of releases and some gold in them hills!
The 1973 Carole King concert from Central Park is worthwhile listening and look forward to viewing the documentary because it is a piece of history for me having been at that show. William Crichton and Liz Stringer covering “Golden Age” is getting some repeated spins here in St. Kilda.
And Hot Fucking Tuna!? Jack and Jorma keep on rolling into their 80’s. Who would have thought. You can check out hundreds of live gigs on Spotify, the track on this playlist was from late 2022.
The Teskey Brothers keep their finger on that soul kind of feeling and I look forward to more music from them as the year goes forward. Europe and the USA are about to get their chance to see them soon.
Enjoy….leave a comment….and keep happy!
Best Albums Of February 2023-Move Down….You Will Find Them!
Cat Clyde-Down Rounder-I love to hit gold when I search for music. Finding an artist that hits you right in the head, heart and soul. You are not really sure at the first listen, so you play the record a number of times and delve deeper.
Cat Clyde has done that for me with this her 3rd solo record. She put out another record with Jeremie Albino in 2021 entitled Blue Blue Blue.
This so far for me is the record of 2023. I know it is early, but it hits me right between the eyes.
“These songs are an expression of my ideas, struggles, emotions and sensations; how I view the world and my place within and without; my relationship with the natural world and all my gifts and curses that are always shape-shifting and evolving with me”-Cat Clyde
Jarrod Dickenson -Big Talk-Texas native, Nashville tethered Dickenson writes some smooth country rocking numbers and the record has a professional self-produced with feel. Personal stories with existential meaning.
“Well, I’m a firm believer that a good cup of coffee is an essential part of daily life, and its importance shouldn’t be underestimated. That’s why my wife and I travel with all of our coffee-making paraphernalia wherever we go!
That said, music reaches a place inside of me that nothing else can get to. Music is deeply embedded in who I am and how I make sense of the world around me.
While a day without coffee is an uncomfortable thing to imagine, a day without music is simply unimaginable. It’s vital.”- Jarrod Dickenson
Benjamin Dakota Rogers-Paint Horse-Rogers has a unique voice. He can play the guitar and you will find he can write some gorgeous lyrics, too.
“My singing is mainly that I don’t know what I’m doing, and this is how it came out! I came to singing late and not a ton of thought has gone into it, other than trying to preserve it – because I used to really hurt my voice. My guitar playing is definitely influenced by my fiddle playing – I play a ton of guitar most of the time and tune it like a cross-tuned fiddle. Pretty much everything I do is influenced by my playing and going into competitions on the fiddle circuit. The way I like dynamics in my vocals is similar to how I used to play as well. So it’s all influenced by fiddle music.” B D Rogers
Fantastic Negrito-Grandfather Courage (Acoustic)-This is a reimagining of his 2022 release White Jesus Black Problems. Both albums stand firmly on their own, but listened to together gives you a good idea of this musical vision and creative streak of Negrito. This 3x Grammy Award winner should be on your lists of people to catch up on if they have slipped under your radar. And of course, check out his back story, it’s as remarkable as his music.
