Another month and some picks from the litter of 2022 coming into your ears. You know the drill; this is music released this year that I have just come across. And hey folks, always open to comments and recommendations, so if you got something let us all know. If you are having trouble making comments, download the Substack App!
Plenty of excellent writers out here….
Without further ado let us get to The Album Of The Month
Rain Perry-The White Album-Are you white? Yeah, your skin colour? Well, I don’t know your politics, but I have a good idea you might be politically correct. These songs are real and enlightening in a way that will open your heart and head.
The things we are all thinking about and if you are white and not thinking about it, where is your head at?
Musically, this is a gem with some originals and some beautiful covers. Check her out online, here on the Spotify land, or go buy some shit on her Bandcamp page.
But bottom line, go listen to this record. Now.
Kurt Vile-(watch my moves)-Kurt continues down his quirky road. His vocals and lyrics suck you in and at 42 we know there is a lot of petrol left in Vile tank. Stream of consciousness, not vile at all!
Andy Golledge-Strength Of A Queen-Golledge first came to my attention back in the early days of Dashville Skyline. Always taken by his voice and energy performing, Andy has hit stride here with an album that loses nothing from the first track until the last.
This may be a debut record, but Golledge has been working hard to get to here and he has come up with aces and queens.
Horse Feathers-Horse With No Home (Deluxe Issue)-If you liked the original, well, then you already know more of Horse Feathers is a beautiful folk road to travel. If you have not heard it, press play.
Particle Kid-Time Capsule-Not having delved into Micah Nelson’s work like I have been drawn to Lukas and POTR, well I have gotten a new horse and I am riding with Micah this month. Do not expect country, even though Willie, his dad does show up. Margo Price, J. Mascis, Jim James, Sean Ono Lennon and others also add to this mash-up of styles and tunes.
Give it some time, it takes some time at 105 minutes, but will be worth it.
(Sorry Micha, The White Album came along and rained on your chance of being the album of the month!)
Check out these too…
Molly Tuttle and The Golden Highway -Crooked Tree-Picking and grinning and sinning…..
Ry Cooder/Taj Mahal-Get On Board-Ry and Taj are back.
Charley Crockett-Lil G.L. presents Jukebox Charley-Crockett continues record country gold with another installment of covers. If you don’t know Charley, you don’t know country.
The Lazy Eyes-Songbook-Sydney Northern Beaches psychedelic grooves coming’ at ya.
