The letter “D” has brought me to many Dan’s and Dave’s.
Sitting around on Easter Sunday finishing this list and the playlist below. Some of these acts I saw at Easter time when I attended Bluesfest or the sideshows. Easter time is always filled with music.
Tomorrow we go to see Nathaniel Rateliff and St Paul and The Broken Bones.
Other venues include a crafts fair in the streets of Salt Lake City, The Nassau Coliseum, The Academy Of Music, Madison Square Garden, The Sydney Entertainment Centre, New Orleans Jazz Festival, The Enmore Theatre, Roosevelt Raceway and bars and venues that are part of the mist of my memories.
Deep Purple was the loudest gig I ever attended. I recall sitting in the nose bleed seats and I could feel the bass and amplification in my chest. Once Smoke On The Water was complete I left the building and the memory stayed with my ringing ears for days.
Backstage with Don Mclean at the Nassau Community Folk Festival with him complaining about his flu and later on him drinking beer with mandolin maniac Frank Wakefield back at the after party. Sugar Blue was trying to get these two disparate musicians to jam but that was not on the cards.
Swallowing disco biscuits while dancing to the band of the same name in New Orleans, Dire Straits rocking out Radio City in 1985, and Dave Edmunds with Rockpile quite a number of times.
The marathon that was Dwight Yoakam at The Capitol in Sydney the day before Halloween(2006). People in masks and everyone buzzing and Dwight played over 35 songs and the show was close to 3 hours. No one expected a Grateful Yoakam styled gig.
Dave Brewer and David Lindley are two of my favourite Daves. Check them out if you have not already.
So D is for drums, deafness and dancing! Enjoy.
