CASH SAVAGE AND THE LAST DRINKS
The Landsdowne-Sydney-23 Jun 2018
Having only seen Cash Savage and The Last Drinks on the stage at Dashville Skyline getting the opportunity to see them in a pub in Sydney was an opportunity not to miss. Her stage presence and the connectivity she has with a crowd and the damn good fun the band has made an impact on me that evening and tonight was no exception.
Savage is truly a rock and roll animal when she is on the stage. You cannot be in the same room and not be drawn to her prowling and growling beauty as she performs. The Last Drinks are the perfect five-piece with the two guitars of Joe White and Brett Marshall, the rhythm section of Chris Lichti and Rene Mancuso on bass and drums respectively and the hard-driving fiddle of the superb Kat Mear.
The sonic pleasure of “Better than That” and the galloping of “Run With The Dogs” gets your damn legs moving and the crowd was rattling their bones and spilling their beers with vigor. It was not a sold-out performance but the assembled mob was very much into what they were witnessing. On such a small stage and in a small room, this was one of those shows that will be imprinted on the memories of those who attended. Luckily, Mear did not put out any eyes with her frenetic playing!
At times reminiscent of Patti Smith and other times a hard-driving Ryan Adams from his Whiskeytown days, The Last Drinks have hit their stride. They have developed their own concoction of punk and swagger and roll that leaves you breathless at times. The lengthy last song of the night “Let Go” allowed Joe and Brett to go wild for a while until the entire unit brought it home.
So get out and support them! You will not be disappointed. Moreover, go buy a t-shirt or an album and get some fashion advice from Cash too! What a bargain!!
