Otis Gibbs…a singer-songwriter born In Indiana….has put this film together about John Prine…told through the stories of Todd Snider. I have no idea how long this will be Free To Air on YouTube….so get in quick. Like right now. I think it is only up for 24 hours.
John Prine left us in 2020….due to complications from Covid.
Todd Snider departed the planet in November of 2025.
John and Todd are drinking Handsome Johnny’s in heaven all day long and singing all night long. Is there a day and night in heaven?
Let me know boys.
How to Make John Prine’s Signature Cocktail – The Handsome Johnny
“I turned everybody on to my favorite cocktail it’s called a Handsome Johnny. I named it kind of after myself but I thought Handsome Johnny sounded like a Rob Roy or a Manhattan,” explained Prine in a SiriusXM Outlaw Country interview. “Now every bar you go to has a cocktail list but 20 years ago when I started drinking Handsome Johnny’s people wouldn’t make you a Rob Roy or a Manhattan they said that was old school. Now they’ve come back around again.”
“There’s actually a couple bars in Nashville that have Handsome Johnny’s that’ll be on your receipt. It’s Smirnoff Vodka, red Smirnoff not blue. If you get too good vodka it kills the bubbles in your ginger ale. I use diet ginger ale because the other kind is too sweet after a while, you don’t want to get diabetes from drinking it. And in the winter time I drop a lime in it, don’t squeeze it just drop it in from about six inches above. And in the summer time a lemon.”
Ingredients
1 to 2 ozs. – Vodka. John recommend Red Smirnoff (not Blue)
Ginger Ale – Enough to top off the glass. John recommends diet ginger ale, not regular. You don’t want it too sweet.
Lemon – In the Summertime
Lime – In the Wintertime
Instructions
Fill a cocktail glass with ice
Pour in Vodka
Pour in Diet Ginger Ale
Stir and drop the lemon or lime in from approximately 6″ above. Do not squeeze it.
