US-Iran ceasefire deal largely returns to pre-war status

As just reported, Trump announced that he authorised the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports.

It is not clear what the US president meant by opening the narrow waterway since it was not under Washington’s control.

Since the start of the war in late February, Tehran has de facto gained control of the strait by attacking, or threatening to attack, vessels transiting through the chokepoint.

Its effective closure rocked the global economy as the strait is crucial to significant shipments of oil, natural gas and related products like fertilizer.

The deal largely returns to a status that existed before the war, but with thousands of people dead and Iran wielding a new source of negotiating pressure with its ability to influence transits of the strait. (www.aljazeera.com/news)

Lebanon is included in this ‘ceasefire’.

Israeli attacks have killed more than 3,700 people in Lebanon, including 132 health workers and 247 children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Around 1 million Lebanese people have been displaced by the war, and Human Rights Watch said Israel has committed “numerous violations of the laws of war in Lebanon with total impunity, including apparently deliberate or indiscriminate attacks on journalists, civilians, medics, financial institutions, reconstruction-related facilities, and peacekeepers, in addition to the widespread and unlawful use of white phosphorus in populated areas.”(Time Magazine 2026)

It’s the last day of Autumn. Let’s head out to Preston, Victoria, for some live rock and roll. It’s an all-ages gig, and who knows what we are going to get. Well, there was popcorn and a hell of a lot more served up.

Cash Savage and The Last Drinks first blew my head off at Dashville Skyline in 2017. Marijuana mornings, delightful friends, people, and this band making new fans immediately was something I took away from my favourite little festival. Just an aside, Dashville Skyline took a break in 2026, but let’s hope next year they have a line-up as they had in 2017.

Over the next decade, I was able to catch up with Cash and The Last Drinks a couple of more times. Most recently, after a long dry moment between beverages, I caught them for one of Kutcha Edwards’ 60^th birthday celebrations!

Now I found myself going to The Darebin Arts And Entertainment Centre down here in Naarm. It was an all-ages, all-afternoon gig. After my experience with Cash and the band in April, I had to find out if the fire I experienced that night was not singular. There was a fabulous community vibe at the venue, with families and friends lit up with smiles in a room that held about 400 souls.

Tongue Dissolver, a punk-tech trio from Melbourne, kicked things off. Not my cuppa, I decided to head to the lobby for a refreshing ale.

With my beer in hand, I took a seat and looked across the lobby. I felt for a moment that I was looking at myself. Or was it my brother, which was doubtful, as he lives in Canberra. I took a quick photo with my camera to show my partner, Tina. 5 minutes later Tina came out to the lobby for a drink and I watched her walk up to my doppleganger and then started laughing and talking to him.

Yes, she thought it was me. Hilarity ensued. You be the judge. Tina does wear glasses.

Back to Cash Savage and The Last Drinks.

It certainly was not just that night with Kutcha. This outfit is in the bloody pocket. Dougal Shaw and Joe White trading guitar licks, Nick Finch on bass, Anna Langdon wailing on sax, Roshan Khozouei on keys and Rene Mancuso keeping the beat. You add in vocals by just about everybody, and you’ve got a serious rock and roll adventure.

Watching Cash prowl the stage and deliver her vocals with passion and soul is worth every dollar. This was a seated gig, but you could feel that everyone wanted to be out of their seat. Finally, during the closing number, we were told it was our last chance to dance, so peeps got their mojo working.

Savage said they were headed into the studio after this amazing gig. They need to bottle that brew now. They are cooking with something that is quite possibly illegal and hard to find. They have new songs ready to go, and they totally enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of playing together, as seen in these short vids. They are playing with power and passion.

I’d like to build something with anyone who wants to join me around a virtual fire.

Life moves so fast, and I hope you might want to slow down with me for a moment.

I’ve been feeling the need for something slower and more real, and I’d love to start a monthly Zoom gathering — a simple space where we can pause for an hour, check in with each other, breathe a little more deeply with friends, new and old.

Kindness, listening, sharing…with no judgement. There’s nothing to prepare and no expectation to share anything profound. Just come as you are.

Conspiring, communicating, and connecting with no agenda except to share our humanity with each other. Maybe we can call it the Connecting, Conspiring, Creativity Circle. (PS-Please note, someone recently said to me they were ‘tired’ of circles. We can call it any shape and make it any shape we desire. A rhombus, a triangle, ….but you can’t spell LOVE without a circle.)

Each month, we can gather around and share our feelings and thoughts about a topic. Some ideas are what made you laugh this month. How do you create space for yourself? Tell us about a moment in nature you recently enjoyed, etc? You get the idea. I know how smart all of you are.

I believe we are all longing for deeper connection in a world that often leaves us feeling scattered and alone. My hope is that this little gathering can become a place of warmth, honesty, kindness, laughter, reflection, and renewal. A space to take a break from our busy lives and share it with some other humans.

A place where we remember we do not walk through life alone.

The growth of the One Nation Party in Australia has been on my radar recently. Pauline Hanson is still shucking racism hidden behind her immigration policies. This is a wonderful pillar of her immigration policy:
Citizenship and Welfare Wait Times: Introducing an eight-year mandatory waiting period for new migrants before they are eligible to apply for Australian citizenship or receive welfare benefits.

In case you have forgotten, or have never seen some of her in action, roll the damn clip.

I don’t like to give too much space to racists, but this week Australia has served up a beauty. Lisa Jane Spencer, a mediocre singer, someone trying to make a name for herself as a comedian/entertainer/podcaster, has gone the full monty in showing her right-wing racist roots.

The online world and mainstream media are in an uproar as they should be.

Roll this racist clip, which LJ Spencer still claims to be comedic.

Fortunately, you cannot find this in too many places online now unless it is part of a news story or here, as part of my writing.

I dug a little deeper into her online nonsense, and she has a YouTube page where she bashes the anti-vilification laws in Victoria for hindering free speech. Most telling is her interview with One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts. Her xenophobic, Australia First stripes are showing.

She is not a comedian. She is pushing an agenda that is racist. My brain hurts from her stupidity and the things she does online.

Here is something she wrote on her Substack Page in October of 2025.

You would need to stop the issue altogether. If the issue is certain groups with certain characteristics, then stop them from coming in altogether. It’s that simple. Certain cultures are not compatible unless you want to see a whole change in demographics and culture. If you want to see Australia become like Asia and the Middle East, then keep importing more of these people. It’s as simple as that. See, a place isn’t just a place because of one thing. It’s the people, plants, wildlife and climate. Change one of them, and very drastically and at mass (which is what is happening in Australia), and you change a whole ecosystem very quickly. It’s happening and it’s happening quickly.

For me personally, I don’t want to live in Asia. I don’t want to live in India. I don’t want to live in the Middle East. So, personally, Poland is looking pretty good to me right about now ;)

I only hope she moves to Poland….soon. She was fired from her job at a Hot Springs when her employer found out about her racism.

But this story continues. LJ Spencer has decided to start a Give-Send-Go Campaign to raise money…..for HERSELF.

Here she is telling us she is going to FIGHT THIS. She posted something online that was racist, her employer did not like it, and she got canned. What is she fighting? Anyone want to bet the only way she is WINNING is by getting money from other racists online?

One of her followers on Instagram giving her props for her racism is this knob jockey, vandal Andrew Nolch. Back in 2018, Eurydice Nixon was murdered on her way home from a comedy gig. There was a makeshift memorial in the park, and whatever he calls a brain made woman-hating Andrew decide to paint a 25 metre image of male genitalia on the grass near where her body was discovered. He was 29 at the time and was convicted of that crime. Now at 37, he still appears to be losing brain cells.

Yes, this is one example of the hateful people following her ‘comedy’. Some of the supportive comments were disgusting. Free Speech is one thing, but racism has its consequences.

For now.

How about this for related GOOD NEWS?

There is a young man online who has developed an Aboriginal Mental Health Course, which he launched during Reconciliation Week. It seems the online chatter of that so-called comedian has had folks recommend his work and his course.

Silver linings, baby.
